Cobblers Reading Stars is an innovative and unique project to compliment the work with schools that we are involved in Playing for Success sessions at the Cobblers Study Centre. The idea behind Cobblers Reading Stars is that every child in the classes involved in PfS can take part in some Cobblers related activity.

The aim of Cobblers Reading Stars is to motivate children and their families to take part in reading and reading related activities with a view to raising the participating schools reading standards. Your child’s school has been given a box of resources to use during the term, to encourage children to take an active part in reading.

Every-time a child reads a book we ask them to submit a book review, a selection of which will be regularly included on the Cobblers Study Centre website http://www.cobblersstudycentre.org.uk/.

When the book review is received the child is given a sticker to place on the class wall chart. Over a term the class collect as many stickers as they can. When the resources box is collected the children are then able to exchange their sticker chart for a reward from the club or study centre such as community coaching session, free match tickets or sports equipment.

This project follows on from a pilot project with St. Lukes Primary school and the Cobblers Study Centre called Cobblers Reading Stars. The pilot scheme was a success and the scheme now includes Saints Reading Stars in association with Northampton Saints Rugby Club and the Diamonds Reading Stars in association with Rushden and Diamonds Football Club  the Steelbacks Reading Stars in association with Northampton Cricket Club.

Reading Stars is a Playing for Success funded project supported by Northamptonshire Study Centres, Northamptonshire County Council, The Department for Education and Skills, The National Literacy Trust, Pearson Longman Education and the clubs themselves.
