Gateway Challenge Day!

Today we welcomed a new group of boys from Gateway School, and we kicked off our first session back after the Easter break with ‘Challenge Day!’ The boys were given a list of 32 challenges which vary in difficulty, time, skill and points awarded; from calculating the length, width and area of the football pitch, and running 400m around the training track to fitting as many marshmallows in your mouth as possible!  The students were given 5 minutes to plan, working out how to use their time effectively, organising which activities to complete in what order as they were based in the Study Centre, around the stadium and on the training ground.  The boys were given 1 hour to complete as many tasks and gain as many points from them as possible, as the prize for getting the highest score was official NTFC merchandise!

As both boys took part in and completed a wide range of the games, with the highest score being 86 out of a possible 96 points, they were rewarded with an NTFC football!

Gateway return to a Fruity Challenge!

Gateway afternoon group returned for their first session since Easter and we made it a fruity one!

In teams they had to complete several tasks in order to ‘win’ ingredients for their smoothie which they will make later.

Task 1 was the Touch the Fruit challenge, they had to guess six different fruits bytouch alone. Next was the picture reveal, guessing the fruit in as few boxes as possible. They then had to match the healthy and unhealthy food cards in the fastest time.

We then took them outside for Coconut Olympics, they had to throw and roll the coconuts and see who could get the furthest.

Finally they had the ‘Taste Test’, which meant they were blinfolded once again and had to guess what the fruit was by taste alone. the results were quite funny, especially when we gave them lemon!

Using their ingredients they then got to make their fabulous smoothies and drink them.

Danetre Say Goodbye

Today the Danetre daytime program came to an end after an action packed and fun term with the group.  Starting the day with the now well known toast and tea, Lee lead the group in an ICT based fact finding mission, finding stats and figures around famous football players. After searching the web and completing their player pofiles, the boys took their researched players and set up a league competition on Fifa 2012, challenging each other across a series of short matches.

Taking a break from the digital tournament, the boys went into the stadium to watch the first team train for this weekends coming match, before heading out onto the training pitches themselves to improves their own football skills.

A great session at the end of a great program.
