This evening we were joined by a group of boys from Kingsthorpe College.  In their first Playing for Success session at the Cobblers Study Centre the boys made name badges and played team games whilst getting to know the staff.  Next week the boys will be taking a  tour of the Sixfields Stadium with video and digital cameras.  Check back next week to see what they get up to.

Take a look at what Sixfields looked like on Tuesday evening during our PfS session.

Balloon PopA Year 8 Kic.In2.Study group visited the Cobblers Study Centre this evening for their first after school session of 2010.  They will be visiting the Study Centre every Wednesday for the rest of the term. As the group did not know each other we spent the session playing lots of Team Games led by Margaret.  The games included Card Communication, the famous Cobblers chopstick sweet challenge, pop the balloon, balloon ball and blow football.  The students also completed a learning log that they will fill in each week to document their time in the Study Centre.  Next week the group will be looking around the Stadium on a Walter Tull Trail.  We look forward to having them back.

This evening we welcomed a Year Five Playing for Success group from Green Oaks Primary School.  The session kicked off with circle time where all the Study Centre staff and the PfS students introduced themselves to each other.  We were also joined by Michael, Kieran and Kayleigh who are all from local secondary sschools, they worked as mentors throughout the session helping the children with their ICT skills.

The group made some fantastic name badges and finished the session by picking their Champions League teams for the term.

This evening at the Cobblers Study Centre we were joined by a group of boys from The Grange to start this terms Playing for Success sessions.  We had a really fun first week and played lots of games, got to know the group and made name badges.  Cameron from The Grange is this weeks Study Centre reporter and has written about the session.

“It has been a good first day, I have played a game where you have to put a hoop round a circle but you cant let go of people’s hands. We did a questionnaire and made colourful name badges,  it was good. ”

AbbeyfieldToday Year Seven pupils from Abbeyfield School  took part in a reward day at the Cobblers Study Centre courtesy of Barclaycard.

Five members of staff from Barclaycard Northampton attended the Study Centre as part of their Barclaycard Community work to to mentor the young learners  from Abbeyfield who were taking part in the day.  The students from Abbeyfield School participate in the “Double Club” scheme based within school.  The Double Club scheme uses sport as a vehicle for learning and engagement in the curriculum.   They were rewarded with a trip to the Cobblers Study Centre for their hard work throughout last term.  Activities at the Study Centre included a tour of the Sixfields Stadium,  Stadium  Orienteering and a practical football session with NTFC Community Coach Steve.  The final task of the afternoon was to create a comic strip outlining all the activities that they had taken part in throughout the day.  All students were rewarded with a goody bag at the end of the day that contained match tickets and other Cobblers Study Centre merchandise.

Thank you to all the Barclaycard Staff who volunteered their time and the Students who were enthusiastic and worked well all day.
