Staff and students from all five Northamptonshire Study Centres were represented at the national PfS conference in Solihul last week.  To read more from this event please check the Northamptonshire Study Centres website.

In their fourth week at the Cobblers Study Centre, youngsters from Whitehills became the Chairman of their own football club.  The Whitehills pupils had to pick a name for their dream team, design home and away kits, identify a suitable stadium, select a strong squad capable and produce an acrostic poem about their team.  All of the work was presented using their fantastic  I.C.T and art skills.  Some of our pupils took over Manchester United and Liverpool whilst some of the more original new football teams included Spongebob FC and Barking Mad FC.  All the Club Challenges will be finished off after the half term break.

Last night our Playing for Success group from King Heath completed the stadium orienteering challenge in the Sixfield’s Stadium.  In their Champions League groups the young learners from Kings Heath solved numeracy problems which led them to a specific seat in the Stadium.  Under the seats they found letters which spelt out an anagram which was solved back in the Study Centre.

On Wednesday 13th May the Cobblers Study Centre held its official Open Day at Sixfields Stadium.  A presentation was held in the Players Lounge along with a tour of all the facilities on offer.  A large number of children from schools across Northamptonshire were also at work in the Study Centre.

What the children thought:

“It is Open Day, we were set a challenge to do some orienteering in the stadium.  We had ten questions and  the answers of the of the questions led to a chair in the stadium.  The clue we found was a letter from the alphabet and it made an anagram.  Next we made comic strips about our time at the study centre, it was fun!”

William from St. Lukes

“I have had a lot of fun at the Cobblers especially with my friends.  My school is Upton Meadows and we came to  the Study Centre with St. Lukes and more schools.  We did loads of challenges for the Study Centre Open Day.  I have had a great time today, we ran around the stadium with Margaret and made comic strips about our time at the Study Centre with Jaimie.  It was fantastic!”

week-3-orienteering-001This evening young learners from Whitehills were challeneged to an orienteering challenege in the Sixfield’s Stadium.  The group are on the third week of their Playing for Success programme at the Cobblers Study Centre and put their numeracy skills to the test by solving maths problems that led them to various points around the stadium.  After wearing themselves out running around all four stands the youngsters then had to solve an anagram and find as many words from the anagram as possible.  All groups worked really well and we are looking forward to having them back in the Study Centre next week!

The friends in the changing roomsThe view from the reporters seatsHi we are Kings Heath primary at the Cobblers Study Centre.  Today we went on a stadium tour and went to the top of the stands, I thought it was scary but really enjoyed it today.  We went into the changing rooms we saw the showers and the massage table. We saw some trophies in the players lounge it was really cool! In the west stand we saw some owls, they are there to scare away smaller birds from messing on the seats.  My favourite part of the tour was sitting in the seats that the reporters watch a match from because it was a good view.  Im looking forward to making a comic strip with all the photos I have taken.

Today we went on a stadium tour at the Cobblers.  The stadium was opened in 1994.  We looked around the stadium and we all had cameras and we got some photos at the end of the session.  We went to the traning room it is the room where thay have there breakfast!  We saw the cells and the changing rooms.  The newspaper reporters have a good view of the pitch.  They sit at the top of the west stand.  There are 7653 seats in the stadium.  I liked the stadium!
